Description

Chief Two Guns White Calf: 1924 Letter. Blackfoot Chief Two Guns White Calf (1871-1934) is arguably the most famous Native American of the 20th century. He is often pointed out as the model of the Buffalo nickel, although the designer, James Earle Frazier, claimed that Two Moons (a Cheyenne) and Iron Tail (a Lakota Sioux) and "one or two others" served as his inspiration. Two Guns White Calf served as tribal leader following the death of his adoptive father in 1902. ALS, Browning, Montana, July 11, 1923, to Waldo C. Moore, written on two separate sheets measuring 5" x 8" each. "... I am enclosing you you [sic] one $1 check which you ask me to do for you. And I was glad you ask me to do that for you. I haven't got much..." This is a nice, clean example.
