Description

19th-Century Precision Balance Scale. This glass, wood and metal scale was produced by Becker & Sons of "New-York". We believe it dates from the 1850-1880 period. It measures 19" wide, 9" deep and 14" tall. It has all its original components, a sheet with instructions for "Setting Up Balance" (toned with some loss),a box of diamond weights and a roll of copper foil. It is being sold together with a wooden, hinged case containing eight brass counterweights ranging in size from 5 g. to 20 Dk. The scale was likely used to weight diamonds, gems, gold and precious metals.
