Rare Bottle Opener Spurs from C.P.Shipley.
Rare pair of C.P.Shipley single-mounted bottle opener spurs. 6-point, 1-inch star rowels on 2-inch hooked shank. Rocker-engraved to off side of shank. Heel bands with rocker-engraved arrow. Fixed, engraved buttons. Inside of heelbands with partial Shipley and Kansas City, Mo. maker's mark. c1910.

Condition: Very good. Moderate age wear and patina. Maker's marks are partials. Silver overlays are fine showing nearly all of the original detail. Scattered fine pitting and staining.

According to Martin and House in "Bit and Spur Makers In The Texas Tradition", the Bottle Opener-style spurs were not shown in Shipley's catalogs but were purchased from McChesney and marked "CP Shipley." See page 210 for a similar pair.
