Description

J. A. Polk of Sweetwater, Texas: Single Loop Side Holster and Matched Money Belt, Circa 1880-1895. The border tooled hand-stamped holster, with rosettes and a closed toe, is for a 5½" Colt SAA pistol. The cartridge belt measures 38" at the smallest and up to 43" at the longest. There is a row of cartridge loops for thirty-five individual .38 caliber rounds. The holster, with an elongated tooled strap, is clearly marked "J. A. Polk/ Sweetwater /Tex." on the skirt under the toe. The unmarked 3" cartridge belt has a clipped corner nickel buckle. The belt shows light wear. The holster, with the numeral "4" and "2" separated by a bar (perhaps a brand), is in fine condition.
