Description

Heublein & Burgtorf of Petaluma, California: Single Loop Texas Half Skirt Side Holster and Cartridge Belt, Circa 1870-1890. The border tooled hand-stamped holster, with rosettes and a closed toe, is for a 7½" Colt SAA pistol. The belt measures 38" at the smallest and up to 45" at the longest. There is a row of cartridge loops for forty-nine individual .44 caliber rounds. The holster is marked "Heublein/ &/ Burgtorf/ Petaluma" above the loop on the skirt and has a hole for a leg tie at the bottom of the skirt. Heublein & Burgtorf were one of the earliest saddle and holster makers in Northern California. The 1½" gun belt is unmarked. A rivet is missing, slight stitching separation and, a small split at the top, otherwise, both are fine.
