Description
An 1892-Dated San Antonio, Texas Presentation Cane with Massive Eagle's Head Gold Handle. Engraved on the oval side panel: "Leon Jones from messengers of Pacific Express Co. December 25 92 / San Antonio Tex." Our research failed to turn up any information about Jones or the company, however this might be a fruitful area of pursuit for scholars of San Antonio history. The cane itself is a magnificent example in superb condition. The gold handle is by far the largest and most massive among the gold handle canes offered in this catalog. We picture it together with another eagle's head cane from this auction for comparison purposes. Overall length 35" and the gold handle measures 4.5" x 3.25". These eagle's head handles must surely be considered among the most accomplished examples of this Victorian decorative arts form.Auction Info
