1984 Wrangler Bullfighting Trophy Won by Ft. Worth Cowboy Rick Chatman.11-inch by 14-inch bronze casting on hardwood base depicts a brave rodeo bullfighter coming to the aid of a bull rider in trouble. Front of sculpture is marked: WORLD CHAMPION / WRANGLER BULLFIGHTER 1984. Brass plaque on base indicates OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. Back of sculpture is signed: T.R. CHYTKA / 1/1 [copyright] 1984.
Rick Chatman was a famous Cowboy Bullfighter, aka Rodeo Clown whose black and yellow colors earned him the nickname of "Bumblebee." In 1984, Chatman won seven of nine matches on the Wrangler Bullfighting Tour and won the world championship at the NFR when he got past "Crooked Nose", the only bull ever inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.
Tony Chytka is a rural South Dakota native, rancher and former champion bull rider and now sculpts western and rodeo scenes in bronze.
Condition: Fine. Light age wear and patina.
