Apollo 8 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Rusty Schweickart, Serial Number 264, with Signed LOA. This sterling silver 38mm x 30mm triangular-shaped medal was one of 300 flown aboard Apollo 8, December 21-27, 1968, with crewmembers Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders. The obverse of the medal features the mission insignia depicting a figure eight containing the surnames of the crew looping around the Earth and the moon symbolizing the mission number as well as the mission's orbits around both bodies. The three-sided shape with a rounded bottom duplicates the shape of the Apollo spacecraft. The reverse has the engraved dates of the mission, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Original case with numbered sticker on the bottom included. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Russell L. Schweickart" on his personal letterhead, stating: "I hereby certify that this Apollo 8 silver Robbins medallion, serial # 264, was flown aboard the Apollo 8 mission in 1968. As a member of the astronaut office, I was permitted to purchase up to two Robbins medallions from each mission. This medallion has been part of my personal collection since the mission."
