Description
Henry Wells and William G. Fargo: Signed Stock Certificate. This 12.25" x 8" engraved stock certificate is for one share in the "American Express Company". It was issued on October 17,1865 and signed by the President and Secretary of the company, Henry Wells and William G. Fargo, the same gentlemen who founded and operated Wells, Fargo & Company. The recipient was Robert Pomeroy of Pittsfield. It is countersigned by Treasurer Alex Holland. The graphics are quite outstanding, with a train, roundhouse, ships, delivery wagon, safe, cotton and crated goods, and a guard dog labeled "Safety & Dispatch." The signatures are nice and clear.
