Early Transportation and Western Expansion: Erie Canal Advertising Circular. 7.75" x 10" advertisement, in "broadside style", issued by Jeremiah Merritt, Agent for the Hudson & Ohio Line, in Boston. It advertises "Western Passage and Freight" hauling from Boston as far west as Detroit, via the Hudson & Ohio Line, the Erie Canal, steamboats on the Great Lakes and the Ohio Canal. Decorative border with graphics of canal boat, locomotive and steamship. Some wrinkling, small area of tape bleed-through in the middle, horizontal tears neatly repaired with archival tape on verso. Circa 1830. An evocative and rare piece chronicling the expansion and industrial growth of America.
