Description

U. S. Mint: Silver Lifesaving Medal in Presentation Box. 45 mm. silver medal with scene of a sea nymph rescuing a drowning man on the obverse, inscribed "United States of America. Act of Congress June 20, 1874". The reverse is inscribed: "In Testimony of Heroic Deeds in Saving Life From the Perils of the Sea" and, within a wreath, a presentation inscription: "To Captain Fred Johnson For Distinguished Bravery in Saving Life From Shipwreck November 12, 1900". Suspended from silver eagle hanger and blue grosgrain silk ribbon with brooch attachment. BU condition with lovely blue and red toning. Quite handsome.
