Description

Howard Hughes: Fully Signed Menu by Global Circumnavigators. Howard Hughes was known as the "Aviator" for good reason. He had a keen interest in aviation, producing the movie "Hells' Angels", developing and piloting the "Spruce Goose", starting an airline (TWA) and setting various flying records. In 1938 he, along with three other men, flew around the world. This is a 6.5" x 9" souvenir menu for a "Dinner in honor of Howard Hughes And Crew by The President and Board of Directors of New York World's Fair 1939." The interior of the menu is signed in ink or pencil by sixteen guests, including pilot Howard Hughes, radio engineer Dick Stoddard, navigator Harry Connor, pilot engineer Edward Lund, "Rocky Rockefeller", three admirals and others. The menu has clever "items", such as "Surprise Howard Hughes", "Consomme Double Le Bourget" with other "dishes" named after stopovers on the flight. There is a pattern of vertical toning in the middle and slight overall aging. The overall condition is quite nice. The cover indicates it was Mrs. [Dick] Stoddard's copy.
