Description

Aviation History: Vin Fiz Flyer Compton Crash Relic. 33" x 16" hand-painted linen streamer emblazoned with the name "Vin Fiz". It is mounted to an iron support or brace on the left side. It was attached to some part of the "Vin Fiz Flyer" (possibly the tail) during its historic cross-country flight during the fall of 1911. It is inscribed in ink on the center bottom: "Remains of/ Wreck at/ Compton/ Sunday Nov 12 1911/ at 5:00 PM 3999 miles". There are many pencil signatures, but none we recognize (likely members of the support team, friends & family). There are tears, rips, creases, soiling with some loss, but essentially intact. It deserves to be restored or mounted to a support fabric and flattened and should display nicely. The consignor's ancestor was the chauffeur who drove the representative of Armour & Company, sponsors of the event and makers of "Vin Fiz".
