"D. B. Cooper" 1971 Ransom Money. Unknown Series $20 Federal Reserve Note. Certified and encapsulated by PCGS Currency with a custom insert picturing the 1971 artist's sketch of the sunglasses-wearing skyjacker. Found by eight-year-old Brian Ingram along the banks of the Columbia River in Washington on February 10, 1980, this is one of the only known group of currency notes that can be linked to the historic and infamous event.

All the notes from this group were damaged by their exposure to the elements. This present example is approximately 2.6" x 1.4" with a partial and damaged Jackson portrait.

The D. B. Cooper Story (X): The FBI interrogated all the individuals that had seen Cooper on the plane and came up with a composite sketch that was used on the wanted posters of the day (and seen on the PCGS insert accompanying these banknotes). They felt comfortable with this likeness because everyone interviewed gave a nearly identical description. A massive manhunt was launched covering four states and involving local, state, federal, as well as military personnel. To quote TIME Magazine, "By week's end officers were scratching their heads and wondering where to look next for the dapper, audacious fellow with $200,000 to spend." As per procedure, the serial numbers of the $20 bills were to banks and law enforcement agencies worldwide. Often, this generated usable leads but not in this case though. This is the only skyjacking case of that period to remain unsolved.
