A BREATHTAKING, MINT GEM AND AN INCREDIBLY RARE STAMP IN TOP GRADES - WITH MORE THAN 85 EXAMPLES GRADED BY PSE TO DATE, NOT A SINGLE 519 HAS SCORED HIGHER THAN THIS SUPERB 98, AND ONLY TWO NEVER HINGED ONES HAVE BEEN JUDGED ITS EQUAL.
Scott 519 is a very difficult stamp to find in high grades, especially genuine. It is one of the most counterfeited stamps of all United States issues. It is easily produced by perforating the imperforate stamps from which the Post Office Bureau produced the genuine article. The practice is so prevalent, it is one of the very few stamps that the Scott Catalogue actually publishes a warning about the counterfeits. Have no fear though, the present example is not only completely genuine, it is quite possibly the finest extant.
