Description
Apollo 8 Flown U.S. Flag Signed by Borman, Lovell, & Anders. This 6" x 4" cloth flag was "...carried aboard the first manned lunar orbit spacecraft". It has been tipped to a printed certificate of 10" x 12" featuring a color photo of the liftoff. Astronaut Bill Anders has signed the certificate: "To Bill Many Thanks Bill Anders"; the "Frank Borman" and "James Lovell" signatures are autopen. This mission was the second Apollo flight and the first to travel to and orbit the moon. Taking place between December 21 and December 27, the astronauts made a landmark Christmas Eve television broadcast where they read the creation story from Genesis in the Bible. At that time, it was the most watched TV broadcast ever. Their successful mission helped pave the way for the fulfillment of John F. Kennedy's goal to land a man on the moon before the end of the 1960s.Auction Info
