Description
Apollo 11 Flown Beta Cloth Mission Insignia Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Signed, with Signed LOA. A 9" x 9" (5.5" x 7.5" sight size) Beta cloth patch matted and framed to an overall 9.5" x 11.5". It is signed "Buzz Aldrin" beneath the 3.375" diameter insignia. Attached to the back of the frame is a 5.5" x 3.25" signed LOA with the following information: "This is to certify that this patch printed on space suit material was carried to the Moon on Apollo 11 July 20, 1969 [signed] Buzz Aldrin". The "space suit material" Aldrin mentions is fire-resistant Beta cloth developed by Dow-Corning as a reaction to the tragic Apollo 1 fire where the astronauts' nylon spacesuits melted and fused together. Excellent. Gifted by Aldrin to his older sister Fay Ann.A Letter of Authenticity signed by Mrs. Potter's son (the executor of her estate) will accompany this lot.
