B&W photo of Gagarin in his military uniform, signed neatly in
black ink in the wide bottom margin. Excellent.Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space on April 12, 1961, completing one orbit of Earth aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft. Following his historic spaceflight, Gagarin became an international celebrity, was awarded many medals and titles including Hero of the Soviet Union and served as deputy training director of the Cosmonaut Training Centre. Although Vostok 1 was Gagarin's only spaceflight, he continued to work in the Soviet space program until his untimely death in a plane crash on March 27, 1968, at the age of 34.
