Description
Neil Armstrong and Six Additional X-15 Pilots Photo Signed. A 10" x 8" B&W photo of a parked North American X-15 rocket-powered aircraft. Seven of the twelve men to have ever flown this plane have boldly signed above its image: "William J. Knight" (1929-2004), "Milt Thompson" (1926-1993), "Bob White", "Neil Armstrong", "Joe Engle", "Bill Dana", and "Scott Crossfield" (1921-2006). The X-15 rocket-powered aircraft set numerous speed and altitude records in the 1960s, reaching the edge of space and bringing back valuable data for use in developing later aircraft and spacecraft. NASA awards astronaut wings to anyone who flies above fifty miles altitude and five of the seven signers of this photo qualified. Of course, Neil Armstrong and Joe Engle participated also in the U.S. space program. This photo was signed to raise funds for the Flight Test Historical Foundation/ AFFTC Museum at Edwards Air Force Base. Milt Thompson was the final pilot to sign it in July 1993, just weeks before he passed away. Excellent condition.Auction Info
