Description

Mercury-Redstone 3: Three Vintage Glossy Photos of Freedom 7 Capsule Being Mated to Redstone Booster and Capsule Checkout, all from the Personal Archives of NASA Legend Bill Taub. As follows.
(1) An 8" x 10" B&W print, NASA photo 61-MR3-47, dated April 29, 1961, of the launch vehicle being prepared for "the United States first effort to shoot a man into space." Press caption on verso. Excellent.
(2) An 8" x 10" B&W print on heavyweight stock of Alan Shepard inside his capsule during checkout. Excellent.
(3) An 8" x 10.75" B&W print of Alan Shepard in White Room outfit outside the hatch of his spacecraft. Appears to be trimmed at both sides as there are no left or right margins, otherwise excellent.

NOTE: The photos from this archive were the inspiration for the recent book by J. L. Pickering and John Bisney, Photographing America's First Astronauts, Project Mercury Through the Lens of Bill Taub. A beautiful book from the Purdue University Press. Highly recommended. From the Collection of J. L. Pickering
