Description
Jack Lousma Signed Large Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) Launch Color Photo, with Extensive Added Comments and Photographic Provenance. A 14" x 11" silk finish photo on Kodak Endura paper of the STS-3 launch. Signed in black felt tip:"We strapped those rockets to our backs and rode the fire to 170 miles above the good Earth at 17,500 mph in 10 minutes. There was a lovely vibration at liftoff. We knew we were going somewhere, and we hoped it was straight up. This was the third and longest of four test flights; only two pilots on board to minimize the risk.
"Jack Lousma
Cmdr. STS-3 (Columbia)
March 22-30, 1982"
A dramatic photo with humorous comments; the first of these Heritage has offered. Snapshot photographic provenance included. Excellent.
Jack R. Lousma was a U.S. Marine Corps colonel, test pilot, and NASA astronaut who flew on Skylab 3 and commanded the Space Shuttle Columbia during STS-3 in 1982. He was among the few astronauts to both live aboard America's first space station and pilot an early shuttle test flight, demonstrating critical endurance and spacecraft performance capabilities.
