Gene Cernan Signed Apollo 17 Lunar Surface "John Wayne Pose" Color Photo, with Added Comments. A 10" x 8" silk finish photo on Kodak Endura paper of Cernan on the lunar surface during the final Apollo moon landing, December 1972. The image shows Cernan with Harrison Schmitt's reflection in his visor, the American flag behind him, and the lunar rover in the foreground. It is boldly signed in black felt tip: "America's Challenge Has Forged Man's Destiny of Tomorrow/ Gene Cernan, Commander Apollo XVII, Dec, 1972". This is a portion of Cernan's famous last words on the Moon. Very desirable as signed. Excellent.Cernan's comment references his unique place in history as the final human to stand upon the lunar surface. Apollo 17 concluded the Apollo lunar program, and Cernan remains remembered not only for his achievements as mission commander but also for his stirring reflections on mankind's future in space.
