Very fine.On November 19, 1969, Apollo 12 astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean achieved a remarkable feat of precision landing, touching down just 600 feet from Surveyor III in the Ocean of Storms. This was no coincidence; the Apollo 12 mission was specifically designed to demonstrate NASA's ability to execute pinpoint landings on the moon. Surveyor III had been on the lunar surface since April 20, 1967, having completed its primary mission of studying the moon's surface properties in preparation for future human landings. During their second moonwalk on November 20, 1969, Conrad and Bean made their way to the Surveyor III site. They were tasked with retrieving specific components from the probe for scientific analysis back on Earth. This endeavor essentially turned Conrad and Bean into the first "space archaeologists," recovering artifacts from a previous robotic mission. The items they collected included: the television camera; a scoop from the soil mechanics-surface sampler; a section of unpainted aluminum tube from a strut; a section of aluminum tube coated with white paint; and a segment of television cable wrapped in aluminized plastic film.
