Clarence "Bud" Anderson was a highly accomplished American fighter pilot during World War II, flying P-51 Mustangs with the 357th Fighter Group of the Eighth Air Force. He achieved the status of "triple ace" by shooting down 16.25 enemy aircraft in aerial combat over Europe. After the war, Anderson continued his distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, becoming a test pilot and eventually retiring as a colonel in 1972.
