Description

Apollo engineer's working copy.

Grumman/ NASA/ MIT Apollo Lunar Module Meeting Minutes, February 1966 - March 1967. Ross Fleisig's personal copy- 8.5" x 11" pages in a green pressboard binder. These are original print-outs in their original binder sheets. Papers in the file vary from press-printing, to photocopies and mimeographs. Fold-out charts of experimental results on Lunar Module equipment are included. The minor wear and tear originates from Apollo era, overall very fine condition.

Failure analysis results and meetings with astronauts and concerns expressed by them are recorded: For example, Don Eisele (Apollo 7, 1968), in a May 4 1966 entry - and a November 1, 1966 meeting with astronaut Neil Armstrong who, after following development of the Grumman LM simulator, "mentioned differences in the handling quality of the Gemini in flight versus those [qualities] obtained from ground simulations. Things that never bothered the pilot on the simulator became bothersome in flight." This is the same Grumman simulator that became a key rescue element in the saga of Apollo 13. This volume's pages are signed as received by LM navigation and control specialist Ross Fleisig. Annotations are also included, such as Fleisig's (pre-Armstrong visit) July 25, 1966 comment, "Very Good," in response to recent LM simulator developments. January 13, 1967 entries list system failures, just prior to a complete break-off of recorded meetings that last into March 1967, following the January Apollo 1 fire. This is therefore one of those rare historical time capsules in which a documented silence truly does speak volumes. From the collection of scientist and author Charles Pellegrino.
