Description
Lockheed L-049 Constellation "Bangor II" (G-AHEL), B.O.A.C. "Speedbird" Display Model. An exceptional and historically significant large-scale display model of the Lockheed L-049 Constellation, representing aircraft G-AHEL, christened "Bangor II" (later shortened to "Bangor"), one of the original Constellations delivered to British Overseas Airways Corporation (B.O.A.C.) in 1946. Finished in the iconic "Speedbird" livery, the model captures the elegance and technological ambition of early postwar transatlantic air travel. Measuring 17.75" x 23" the model is constructed of heavy solid-cast metal and exemplifies the high-end professional airline display pieces of the period, far removed from hobby kits. It features the Constellation's unmistakable triple vertical stabilizers, four original metal propellers (all present), and period-correct dark blue cheatlines with G-AHEL registration markings. The registration G-AHEL identifies one of the first five Lockheed L-049 Constellations acquired by B.O.A.C. in 1946, marking the beginning of Britain's modern long-range transatlantic fleet. Exhibits age-related patina, including pitting and oxidation typical of early cast-metal display models. The original display stand is absent; circular mounting port visible on underside, overall fine.Auction Info
