Alitalia Douglas DC-8 1/50 Scale Display Model. A monumental and historically important large-scale executive presentation model of the Douglas DC-8, finished for Alitalia and representing aircraft I-DIWA, christened "Amerigo Vespucci." Cast in solid aluminum and mounted on a heavy Douglas-branded display base, this is a classic mid-century "travel agency" or corporate office model, produced not as a toy, but as a statement piece celebrating the dawn of the Jet Age. Measuring an overall 36.5" x 34.5" x 21.5", the model rests on its original weighted triangular display base featuring the classic raised Douglas Aircraft Company globe-and-rocket emblem, underscoring its likely origin as a factory-authorized presentation piece. Structurally sound and complete, retaining all four engine nacelles and original wing assembly. Surface exhibits authentic age-related oxidation and patina consistent with vintage cast aluminum.Auction Info
