Description
Space Shuttle Endeavour: Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patches on Crew-Signed Presentation Mats, for STS-47, STS-59, and STS-88. All are 20" x 16" with various color photos and crew signatures, as follows.STS-47, September 12-20, 1992. Crew: Robert L. Gibson (Commander), Curtis L. Brown Jr. (Pilot), Mark C. Lee (Payload Commander), N. Jan Davis, Jerome "Jay" Apt, Mae C. Jemison (Mission Specialists), and Mamoru Mohri (Payload Specialist). This mission, known as Spacelab-J, was a joint venture between NASA and Japan's NASDA, focusing on microgravity experiments in life and material sciences; it notably included the first Japanese astronaut aboard the shuttle, Mamoru Mohri, and the first African-American woman in space, Mae Jemison.
STS-59, April 9-20, 1994. Crew: Sidney M. Gutierrez (Commander), Kevin P. Chilton (Pilot), Linda M. Godwin (Payload Commander), Jerome "Jay" Apt, Michael R. Clifford, and Thomas D. Jones (Mission Specialists). The mission deployed the Space Radar Laboratory-1 (SRL-1), utilizing advanced radar instruments to collect extensive Earth observation data, covering approximately 20% of the planet's surface, to study environmental changes and atmospheric conditions.
STS-88, December 4-15, 1998. Crew: Robert D. Cabana (Commander), Frederick W. Sturckow (Pilot), Nancy J. Currie, James H. Newman, Jerry L. Ross (Mission Specialists), and Sergei K. Krikalev (Mission Specialist, representing the Russian Space Agency). This mission marked the first assembly flight of the International Space Station (ISS), successfully mating the U.S.-built Unity node with the Russian Zarya module, and included three spacewalks to connect power and data transmission cables between the modules.
