Description

Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) Flown Entry Pocket Checklist Book Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Jack Lousma, Signed and Certified. A 6" x 8" tabbed book of approximately 140 pages between cardstock covers and held together by three binder rings. Tabs are titled: "APU/HYD", "Comm", "DPS", "ECLS", "EPS", "GNC", "OMS", "RCS", "PwrDn", and "STS-3". This checklist contained basic contingency procedures to follow during system malfunctions during entry. On the front cover is the STS-3 mission insignia and title with a red line at the right edge. It is signed at the left side: "My Entry Pocket/ Checklist flown/ on STS-3./ Jack Lousma/ Commander/ STS-3". Rare in complete form. Wear from use, front cover bent at lower right, fine.

From a NASA publication: "The pocket checklists contain contingency procedures to safe a system and continue the flight. Normally, these procedures do not troubleshoot a malfunction to determine its cause. The absence of a procedure implies no immediate action required. The crewmember should proceed to the MAL (Malfunction Procedures) book as soon as practical..."
