Description

Mercury-Atlas 9 (Faith 7) Flown Heat Shield Plug in Capsule-Shaped Display on Base. A segment of heat shield, approximately 0.625" square x 0.875" long sealed in a plastic representation of the spacecraft itself, overall 2" diameter x 3.75" long. This is mounted to a hexagonal-shaped wooden base, 6.25" x 7" overall. The details for all six Mercury missions are engraved around the bottom of the acrylic with "Heat Shield of Faith 7" just below the capsule. Faith 7 with Gordon Cooper aboard was the last of the Mercury flights. A very rare type of display, the first Heritage has offered. This was presented to a longtime McDonnell employee. Felt on bottom as well as a wall hook offering two ways to display it. The plastic post holding the capsule in position has apparently been broken and repaired, overall fine.
