Gemini 9A Flown Largest Size American Flag, in Framed Display. A silk U.S. flag, approximately 18" x 12", archivally matted and framed to and overall 28" x 22.5". A metal plaque has been affixed to the lower mat: "To Joseph Garino, Sr./ This Flag Carried in Space/ Aboard Gemini IX/ June 3-6, 1966". Flags of this size that have flown on Gemini missions rarely appear on the market; they are much in demand by collectors and wonderful for display. This is the first that Heritage Auctions has offered in fifteen years! Very fine.

Gemini 9A was a three-day mission, June 3-6, 1966, with Thomas Stafford and Gene Cernan aboard. They were the first backup crew to fly into space as the original crew of Elliot See and Charles Bassett had died in a training plane crash.
