Description

Gemini 2 Flown Heat Shield Plug in Lucite Display on Wooden Base. A wedge-shaped section, 1.5" x 1.875" x 1.25", sealed in a 2.75" diameter x 2" tall Lucite cylinder which is mounted on a 4.5" square x 0.75" wooden base bearing a plastic plate engraved: "GT-2/ JAN. 19, 1965". Gemini 2 was the second unmanned test flight of the Gemini series. Interestingly, it was only a sub-orbital mission by design with the chief purpose of testing the Gemini heat shield, a piece of which is offered here. The first of these that Heritage has ever offered from Gemini 2. Rare. Excellent. From the personal collection of Gemini Program Office special assistant and longtime NASA employee, Paul M. Sturtevant.
