Description

Gemini 11 Flown Heat Shield Plug in Lucite Display. An approximately 2" long section Gemini 11 heat shield (flown September 12-15, 1966), mounted in a clear blue-tinted acrylic wedge and presented on a wooden base. Measuring 7" x 5" the base features both the Gemini Program and mission insignias with a metal plate that states: "Section of Heatshield of Gemini 11 / Charles P. Conrad, Jr. / Richard F. Gordon, Jr. / 12-15 September 1966." Gemini 11, commanded by Charles "Pete" Conrad with pilot Richard Gordon, set altitude records and successfully docked with an Agena target vehicle, testing techniques later used during Apollo missions. Flown heat shield relics are highly prized by collectors as tangible artifacts of early U.S. spaceflight. Very fine.
