Description
Ex. John Young
Gemini 10 Mission Commander John Young's Flown Space Suit
Patches (Three) Originally from his Personal Collection, Certified
and Signed on the Display Frame. Presented here is a 10" x 17"
framed display that contains three patches worn on Commander
Young's suit during the nearly three day mission from July 18, 1966
to July 21, 1966. The display contains three items (top to bottom):
a 5.25" x 4" (sight size) U.S. flag (worn on left upper sleeve); a
3.25" x 3" embroidered Gemini 10 mission insignia patch (worn on
right upper sleeve); and his 3.25" x 1" embroidered "J. W. YOUNG"
name patch (worn on right chest). Young has certified in black ink
on the verso of the frame: "I certify that these patches flew on
my pressure suit on Gemini 10. John Young". One of the toughest
to obtain and most desirable of all space collectibles are flown
patches directly from an astronaut's space suit. An incredible
opportunity to acquire a set from one of the most legendary
astronauts in the history of spaceflight. There are numerous photos
available that show these patches on his pressure suit both pre and
post-flight. Very Fine.Gemini 10 was the first mission to successfully rendezvous with two different spacecraft in space. After docking with its primary target, the Agena Target Vehicle, astronauts John Young and Michael Collins later performed a rendezvous with a second, inactive Agena from Gemini 8, which had been left in orbit. This complex maneuver helped refine docking techniques vital for future lunar missions. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
