Apollo Era Simulant For Space Suit Abrasion Testing on Certificate. Samples of two different substances created to simulate the abrasive effects EVA's had on space suits. Once NASA had successfully completed lunar landings the abrasive nature of the lunar surface really took a toll on the outer layer of space suits. Therefore, these two substances were produced and used in large tumblers to simulate both the Lunar and Martian surfaces.
