Description

Ex. John Young

Apollo 16 Lunar Module Flown American Flag Directly from the John W. Young Collection, with Letter of Certification. A 5.875" x 3.875" cloth U.S. flag that flew to the surface of the moon in the LM Orion, along with Young and Charlie Duke, spending seventy-one hours there. Flown Apollo 16 flags, especially those flown to the surface, are quite desirable. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Young's widow, Susy Young. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the flag of the UNITED STATES that accompanies this letter was flown to the lunar surface in John Young's LM-11 PPK S/N 1119, aboard the Apollo 16 mission April 16-27, 1972. It has been a part of the John W. Young collection since returning from the mission. The flag has a holographic tamper-proof label attached, #1733257, to ensure authenticity, that will display a residual honeycomb design without number if removed."
