Description
Apollo 14 Lunar Module Flown Lunar Bible Fragment, #14 172- 09, On Certificate Signed by Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. A 0.25" x 0.25" fifty-page section of a 1245 page Microform Bible affixed to a 5" x 7" certificate bearing the signatures of Edgar Mitchell and Jim Stout. The first Bible on the Moon was commissioned by the Apollo Prayer League, a group of NASA employees at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. Bible societies in 50 different countries and commercial Bible publishers participated in creating this multiversion Bible in Microform. It was carried to the lunar surface in the spacesuit of Astronaut Edgar Mitchell as a personal favor to Reverend John Stout. Mitchell was the pilot of the Lunar Module Antares. He spent nine hours and 17 minutes of February 9, 1971 walking on the Moon. A historic and meaningful relic of the space race. This piece was presented to Mr. and Mrs. J. Pearce and is signed in black inks: " Jim Stout", and "Edgar Mitchell/ Apollo 14". Very fine.Auction Info
