Description
Apollo 14 Flown American Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. This 6.125" x 4" cloth U.S. flag was carried aboard Apollo 14, the third successful moon landing mission, with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell, January 31-February 9, 1971. Dr. Mitchell has signed this flag on the two lower white stripes: "Flown to the moon aboard Kittyhawk/ on Apollo 14 Edgar Mitchell LMP". A couple of storage folds, otherwise excellent condition.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his personal letterhead stating, in part: "This document certifies that the accompanying 4" x 6" USA flag was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) aboard Kittyhawk from January 31, 1971 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission. The flag bears the inscription 'Flown to the moon aboard Kittyhawk on Apollo 14,' and is signed 'Edgar Mitchell LMP'. The flag has been in my personal collection since the mission."
