Description

Ex. Alan Bean
Used on the Lunar Module Intrepid

Apollo 12 Lunar Module Flown "LM Lunar Orbit Star Chart", Directly from the Family Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean, with Signed Certificate of Authenticity. This 16" x 7.75" black chart on heavyweight film, with white printing, is titled "APOLLO 12/ LM LUNAR ORBIT/ STAR CHART/ NOV 14, 1969 LAUNCH/ October 9, 1969" and was designed to be used in the Lunar Module Intrepid. The Sun and the planets are all portrayed by colored dots in order to stand out against the star field. The Descent Pitch Trace is highlighted in yellow and the Ascent Pitch Trace, in green The outlines of a number of constellations are shown and many stars are named and numbered. Included among these stars are those named by Gus Grissom in honor of his Apollo 1 crew: Navi (Ivan Grissom); Regor (Roger Chaffee); and Dnoces (Ed White the Second). On both the descent to and ascent from the moon, the craft's position needed to be updated in the Apollo Guidance Computer with the help of this star chart. An amazing piece of LM flown history from mankind's second lunar landing. Definitely a museum-quality relic. Very fine.

Included with this lot is a COA on Alan Bean's letterhead signed by daughter and Estate Executor Amy Sue Bean stating that this was flown to the lunar surface on Apollo 12 and was in her father's possession until his death.
