A metal ID plate of 5.25" x 1.75" mounted to a 10" x 11" shield-shaped wooden display plaque beneath a metal die-cut representation of the lunar module. Engraved on the plate from the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. is the following:
"APOLLO XI LUNAR MODULE - 5"
"N. ARMSTRONG COL. E. ALDRIN LT. COL. M. COLLINS"
Part No. "LDW 280-54000-9" / Serial No. "001"
Dsgn Cont No. "Lunar Lander" / Contr No. "NAS 9-1100"

Three of these Lunar Module-5 Identification Plates were flown to the moon on Apollo 11 and returned to Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. They then mounted each ID plate on a wall plaque and one was presented to each crewmember. An extremely significant part of space history, worthy of inclusion in the finest private or institutional collections. To the best of our knowledge and research, this is the first Apollo 11 LM ID plate to be offered for public sale. The very one from the mission commander and first man on the moon's collection is quite an event. Excellent. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
