Description

Apollo 11 Flown Command Module Columbia Rotational Controller Dust Boot. A unique offering of the rubber Dust Boot that was removed from the base of the Rotational Hand Controller #1 upon the return of Columbia to Earth following the first lunar landing mission. Measuring approximately 2.5" x 2.5" the "accordion-like" material provided protection for the hand controller from elements that could possibly cause the controller to malfunction. It has been placed at the base of a hand controller replica and affixed to 5" x 7" wooden plaque. The plaque bears a metal plate with the following information: "Apollo 11 Rotation Control Handle 'Dust Boot' Flown to the Moon on CM-107 Columbia, From RC #1, Used for LM Docking." Included is a signed letter by NASA Production Control Engineer William Whipkey attesting that the boot was removed from Columbia after the flight and gifted to him. A great opportunity to obtain a piece of flown hardware from the most famous mission of them all. Excellent.
