A Silver Snoopy Flown Around the Moon on Apollo 10's LM "Snoopy."
Apollo 10 Lunar Module Flown Silver Snoopy Award Originally from the Collection of Mission Commander Thomas P. Stafford. A fabulous 10mm x 13mm silver pin, with both pin and tie tack backs, of Charles Schulz's beloved Snoopy doing his happy dance in full spacesuit and helmet. Very fittingly, this was flown to within 50,000 feet of the moon's surface on the Lunar Module Snoopy during the Apollo 10 mission. Snoopy was picked as NASA's Manned Flight Awareness mascot soon after the Apollo 1 fire. This is still in its original plastic box. Included with it is an 8.5" x 11" Letter of Authenticity from Stafford on his Stafford, Burke and Hecker, Inc. technical consulting firm letterhead stating, in part: "...This Silver Snoopy pin was flown in Lunar Module Snoopy during the flight of Apollo X... The Silver Snoopy is an award that the NASA Astronaut Corps presents to individuals that have made a significant contribution to the success of manned space flight. Almost all of these pins carried on the Apollo X flight were given to individuals who made important contributions to our flight. This is one of the very few that have remained in my private collection since 1969." It is signed in full at the close. Rarely offered. Excellent condition.Auction Info
