Description

Sergei Korolev Typed Manuscript Signed, agreeing to allow the publication of Yaroslav Golovanov's article regarding Gagarin and Titov shortly after the Gagarin "accident from the balcony." Changes, which are included in the typescript, were made after the incident. Seven pages, 8" x 11.75". Korolev writes in red pencil on the first page: "Permission Granted, I have no reservations about this article being published in Pravda, 3/10/'61, Sergei Korolev." Golovano also signs and underlines his name on the right upper corner of the first page.

In this manuscript, Korolev gives permission for the publication of "Cosmonaut: Who is he?" by Yaroslav Golovanov. This first article about the cosmonauts Gagarin and Titov needed security clearance from Korolev so that it could be published in the newspaper Pravda prior to the 22nd Congress of Delegates. Glovanov was to become one of the most prolific biographers of the Space Age in the U.S.S.R., eventually becoming the official biographer of Korolev and Gagarin. It is significant to note that the article had to be changed after Gagarin fell from a balcony prior to returning from Sochi after a vacation. Golovanov witnessed this mishap and corrected his article by excluding Gagarin from attending the Congress as he was significantly wounded by the fall. The manuscript contains annotations by Korolev and Golovanov. This is the first authoritative article that was published about the cosmonauts. Very fine condition.
