Description

Neil Armstrong's Childhood Homework: Signed Handmade Booklet about the Life of Christ. Written at an early age, this may be one of the longest Armstrong manuscripts of any type ever offered. Two three-hole punched 9" x 11.5" pieces of gray cardboard form the covers for this book held together by three pieces of string. On the front cover is glued a lithographed illustration "Head of Christ". The internal pages are 8.5" x 11" sheets of blank cream-colored paper. Three consecutive pages present a handwritten biography titled "The Life of Christ"; these pages have several color illustrations glued down amongst the text. The recto of another page is titled "Character of Jesus" and lists ten characteristics such as "He was sinless" and "He championed the poor". On the verso of that leaf is a list titled "The Great Teaching of Jesus" with an outline of five major sections. That is continued onto another page that was never completed. Also in the booklet is a printed map of the Holy Lands where Armstrong has labeled the geographical areas involved with Jesus's life such as "Bethlehem", "Jerusalem", and "Galilee". This was found in the attic of the Armstrong family home at 601 W. Benton Street in Wapakoneta, Ohio, by the family who purchased the house in 1964. A copy of that Warranty Deed and a photocopy of a Letter of Provenance from the daughter of that family will be included with the lot. Rare and worthy of the finest collections. The cover is soiled and stained and all the pages are rough, overall good condition.
