Neil Armstrong Personal Autograph Letter Signed to USS
Hornet Captain Carl J. Seiberlich inside a Binder
of Beautiful Apollo 11 "Type One" Photos Sent to Him as a Gift.
An 8.5" x 11.5" Acco Prong-bound cardstock binder containing the
following personal letter on the inside front cover in bold black
felt tip:"To Capt. Seiberlich
Sincere Thanks Again for
your Friendly Welcome and
Efficient Service at our
Destination. I hope we can
Return the favor one day-
All the Best-
Neil Armstrong Apollo 11"
Inside the binder are heavyweight sheet protectors containing the following Type 1 chromogenic prints on Kodak fiber-based paper bearing the "A Kodak Paper" watermarks on the versos; most are of the ultra-desirable "red number" variety, as noted.
S-69-31739 White spacesuit crew photo, red number.
AS11-36-5355 The whole earth, blue number.
AS11-40-5866 Aldrin leaving the LM to descend, red number.
AS11-44-6642 The lunar module ascending toward docking, earthrise, red number.
AS11-37-5545 The American flag on the lunar surface as taken from the LM, red number.
AS11-40-5903 Buzz Aldrin on the moon, the "visor" photo, red number.
AS11-40-5902 Buzz Aldrin next to the footpad of the lunar module, red number.
After these images are separate white spacesuit NASA litho prints of the Apollo 12 crew. A preview of the captain's next clients? These photos make up a summary of the mission and likely were hand-picked by Armstrong to send to Captain Seiberlich knowing that he could never "return the favor." Just think, these pristine photos would sell for thousands with no association or provenance. These came from Neil Armstrong's collection and were given to the Naval officer in charge of rescuing them from the ocean, getting them quarantined, and transporting them to Hawaii. Everyone associated with Heritage that has seen this item have all proclaimed it to be one of the coolest Apollo 11 items ever (and we have seen them all). Museum quality. Included with the lot is a photo of the crew listening to Seiberlich speak to them from outside the MQF. Very fine.
