Description
Cast Bronze Statue of Astronaut Thomas P. Stafford. Cast bronze, 9" tall with marble base, Oklahoma City, OK, 1988. Astronaut Tom Stafford piloted Gemini VI, commanded Gemini IX, commander of Apollo 10, and commander of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission. In 1988, Aerospace America hosted conference for young astronauts, which included a reunion of the first American-Soviet space mission crews. Soviet cosmonauts Aleksey A. Leonov and Valeriy N. Kabasov, who flew the Soyuz space vehicle, joined Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford a week-end long series of events held at the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City. During the conference, a full-sized statue of Stafford was unveiled and dedicated. The statue, sculpted by Leonard McMurry, honored Stafford for his accomplishments in space. Offered here is a scale rendering of the original statue, depicting Stafford in his space suit, holding his helmet in one hand. In very find condition.Auction Info
