Description
Original Lunar Module "Spare Part" made for the Apollo 14 Moon Landing Mission.
Apollo Program Original Grumman Lunar Module Descent Stage Strut, Flight Ready. A metal landing strut segment of 34" x 9", covered in gold Kapton foil, and still in its original shipping box with NASA labeling. Offered here is an amazing flight-ready spare strut as manufactured by LM contractor Grumman Aerospace for LM-8, the code name for the lunar module that flew to the moon with the Apollo 14 mission. This is a part of the LM descent stage landing assembly that consists of four landing legs filled with a crushable honeycomb material that could absorb and adapt to the various potential landing surfaces. A small archive of Grumman documents regarding this piece are included in the lot offering detailed information such as: Part Name "SIDE BR TUBE AY"; Contract No. "NAS9-1100"; Mfg. Part No. "LDW320-23903-6-1"; Mfg. Code No. "26512"; and Date Packed "2/71". As the descent stage of the lunar module was left on the moon's surface (or crashed into the moon as with Apollo 10), there are twenty-eight of these struts on the moon; on the earth however, they are rarely encountered. A great opportunity. Very fine condition.Auction Info
