Description

Alan Shepard (Sr.) Autograph Letter Signed Regarding His Son's Space Career. An interesting letter from the father of America's first man in space. One page, personal letterhead, 7.25" x 10.5", November 19, 1969, Derry, New Hampshire. It reads, in part: "...It is hard to describe my thoughts on the day Alan journeyed into Space. Before he took off I was very much concerned about his safety but was confident that every thing possible had been done to insure a successful trip. After he had returned to earth safely I was, of course, very happy and very proud of his accomplishment. However, I had no thoughts or any idea at that time that he, or anyone else would ever land on the moon. I think, at age 17, my son wanted to become an aviator although he had no firm plans..." Signed: "Alan B Shepard". Alan Bartlett Shepard Sr. (1891-1973) was a retired Army colonel and businessman. Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
