Description

One of only ninety-three flown.

Apollo-Soyuz Test Project Flown Silver Robbins Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Command Module Pilot Vance Brand, Serial Number 29F. Only ninety-three of these 35mm sterling silver medals (out of 283 minted) were actually flown on the historical Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the first international manned space effort. Between July 17-19, 1975, following three years of preparations, three U.S. astronauts (Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand, and Deke Slayton) and two Soviet cosmonauts (Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov) linked an Apollo spacecraft and a Soyuz capsule in Earth orbit. The obverse design depicts the docking maneuver above the Earth and the names of the mission and crewmembers. The reverse features the title "First Joint U.S.-U.S.S.R. Space Flight" and the engraved dates. The serial number is on the rim along with the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. The original plastic box with the "029F" sticker on the bottom is included. Excellent condition.

Included with this is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Kevin Brand, son of astronaut Vance Brand, that reads, in part: "...This Apollo/Soyuz medallion was one of 4 mission medallions (Apollo/Soyuz, STS-5, STS-41-B, STS-35) given to me by my father. Each medallion was handed to me soon after the mission."
