APOLLO 9

Apollo 9 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 313, Originally from the Family Collection of Astronaut Alan Bean, with Signed LOA. This 25mm sterling silver medal was one of 350 flown aboard Apollo 9, March 3-13, 1969, in the first space test of the complete Apollo spacecraft that included the third piece of Apollo hardware- the lunar module. The three-man crew consisted of Jim McDivitt, Dave Scott, and Rusty Schweickart. The obverse is based on the mission insignia, featuring a Saturn V rocket with the letters USA on it. To its right, an Apollo CSM is shown next to a LM; the CSM is trailing rocket fire in a circle around the Roman numerals "IX". The reverse features the dates of the mission, names of the crew, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Included is the original plastic case with the numbered sticker on the bottom. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a signed 2001-dated Letter of Authenticity from Sue Bean on her personal letterhead stating, in full: This Is To Certify that the accompanying Apollo 9 Robbins Medallion, bearing Serial Number 313 was flown aboard the Apollo 9 Command Module Gumdrop. March 3, 1969 - March 13, 1969. This Robbins Medallion then remained a part of the Alan L. Bean Family Space Collection until September 2001. Dated the 20th day of September, 2001. [signed] Sue Ragsdale Bean".
